Coecles Harbor
SHELTER ISLAND PADDLER CLUB
The Coecles Harbor Marine Trail is becoming an increasingly popular area to
paddle. With a number of spots to stop and take in the scenery, the trail extends
from the end of Burns Road to the north past Coecles Harbor Marina and back.

In Coecles Harbor, a great feature is a small, lesser-known creek that is hidden
behind a seagrass breakwater. You can only paddle in this creek during the
incoming tide.

There is a dilapidated bulkhead that you can paddle through, but be careful not to
scrape the bottom of you kayak/canoe because there are a few posts sticking up
from the creek bottom that you'll hit during the outgoing tide.

Use your paddle to push along off the sides of the seagrass beds since it is very
tight, but do not damage the grass as it is vital to the survival of the marine life.

There are plenty of snails, mussels and crabs along the banks.

This is a thin canal formerly used by Native Americans for transporting materials.
