Fresh Pond
SHELTER ISLAND PADDLER CLUB
Fresh Pond is larger than a pond and could be considered a small lake in many
areas. The water is flat and calm freshwater - the largest of two freshwater spots on
the island that are truly able to be paddled.
The pond features many lily pads and branches sticking out from the edges.
The put-in is not in great shape and dilapidated blacktop could scratch the bottom
of your kayak or canoe, but new sand and rocks have recently been put down to aid
boaters and swimmers.
If you decide to get out of the kayak and go for a swim, beware of the large
snapping turtle that measures over three feet in length.
