Shelter Island Paddler Club

The open water that makes up the southwest portion of Shelter Island Sound is
mostly choppy and rarely calm at any time.

During the late spring and early summer months striped bass, fluke and flounder
fill this area as you'll notice by the many boats adrift with rods outstretched.

There are some private docks along the shoreline and some large rocks to look out
for.

The Bootlegger's Alley town landing is the most updated on the island and is wide
enough for any trailer. If you have a small kayak and want to put in elsewhere, use
the beach on the north side of the landing, but don't go too far down the beach as
some of it is private.
