SHELTER ISLAND PADDLER CLUB
Sungic Point is a spit of land located on the northeast tip of Mashomack across
from Reel Point. The body of water between the two points is the choppy channel at
the entrance to Coecles Harbor and can be interesting to maneuver if going against
the current at incoming or outgoing tides.
You can't get away from the boat traffic as Coecles Harbor Marina is located in the
harbor, so just deal with it and try to hug the shoreline as best you can without
getting too close to shore where you could get swamped.
There is restricted beach access and you can only reach it from Mashomack. Deer
have been seen swimming in the channel to and from Sungic Point where you will
also see a few osprey, cormorants and mergansers sunning on rocks.
