Taylor's Island
Hanging out on Taylor's Island

Coecles Harbor on a November
day.
SHELTER ISLAND PADDLER CLUB
Taylor's Island is a spit of land that juts out from the north side of Mashomack into
Coecles Harbor.

The scenic sandbar features
the rustic Taylor house that has since been the
subject of a large renovation and effort to preserve the land and its history.
Large
boulders
that were dropped by receding glaciers millions of years ago occupy the
shoreline
. It's a good place to stop and take a break while paddling. But if you
decide to have a picnic lunch there please pick up your waste as we like to keep the
Island clean.

Now there is a group of preservationists that have been working to keep the
integrity of the small island intact and have recently secured funding to refurbish the
historical spot.
