Shelter Island Paddler Club

Taylor's Island is a spit of land that juts out from the north side of Mashomack into
Coecles Harbor.

The scenic sandbar features a rustic old house that has since been abandoned
and large boulders that were dropped by receding glaciers millions of years ago.
It's a good place to stop and take a break while paddling. But if you decide to have a
picnic lunch there please pick up your waste as we like to keep the Island clean.

Over the last decade, Taylor's Island had been the subject of public debate over
what should be done with the property.

But now there is a group of preservationists looking to keep the integrity of the
small island intact and are considering ways to refurbish the historical spot.
