SHELTER ISLAND PADDLER CLUB
The most popular family beach on Shelter Island, Wade's Beach features an inlet to
the west that is known by locals simply as "The Current". It is a popular spot for kids
to play in the rushing incoming tide as it whips through the thin opening between a
bulkhead and the beach side.

For paddling purposes, this is probably the closest thing you get to whitewater on
Shelter Island.

The Current has been getting slightly narrower every year due to erosion and
empties into a large wetlands area that is great for kayaking. The topopgraphy has
changed in the last 10 years where some mud areas are now below the water
surface and vice versa.

By the main area of beach, you can pull your kayak up on the beach and enjoy a
nice lunch. Public rest rooms are available.
