Weck's Pond
Looks can be deceiving. What
looks like a swampy marshland
is actually a calm, flatwater
refuge for paddling.
SHELTER ISLAND PADDLER CLUB
While sitting in the line waiting for South Ferry on the Shelter Island side, look to
your right (west) and you'll see a small inlet and creek area - that is Weck's Pond.
It is a calm, flatwater located behind Shorewood that is ideal for paddling on the
incoming tide. Follow the channel if you don't want to get stuck in marsh mud.
Boats are tied up near a small bulkhead in the residential Shorewood
neighborhood, so keep a watchful eye out for larger vessels. Very scenic.
