SHELTER ISLAND PADDLER CLUB
Across from the inside of the Shell Beach area you will find the entrance to West
Neck Creek. A small sand bar sticks out on the east side of the entrance to the
inlet, so paddle wide. Paddle past the many docks and tree-lined shore, but be
careful for boat traffic, especially personal watercraft.
At high tide you can find your way through a reed-filled canal on the east side of the
creek near the White property. You're almost guaranteed to see a deer or two in the
area, especially around dusk.
Paddle to Daniel Lord Road where there is a town landing or through to West Neck
Bay. On the south side of West Neck Bay is historic Westmoreland Farms where
former NYS Gov. Hugh Carey spent many summers.
Have a shell fishing permit? There are some good spots for clamming in this area,
but you'll have to find them.
